What CSV Studio does
Open a CSV file, edit it like a spreadsheet, and save back to disk. Everything runs locally in your browser — files are not uploaded anywhere. Your work is remembered while you stay in this browser tab, including when you switch to Wrangler or Crosscheck and come back.
Moving around (like Excel / Sheets)
- Click a cell to select it. Drag, or Shift+click / Shift+arrows, to select a range. Ctrl+click adds more ranges.
- Arrow keys move. Ctrl+arrows jump to the edge of a data block. Ctrl+Home / Ctrl+End jump to the first / last cell. Page Up / Down scroll a screen at a time.
- Click a row number or column letter to select the whole row / column (drag across them for several). The corner triangle or Ctrl+A selects everything.
- The Name box (top-left) shows the active cell — type a reference like
C12 and press Enter to jump there.
Editing
- Just type on a selected cell to replace its contents. Double-click or press F2 to edit in place. Alt+Enter inserts a line break inside a cell.
- Enter commits and moves down, Tab moves right (Shift reverses). Esc cancels an edit.
- The formula bar shows the active cell — long values are easier to edit there.
- Delete / Backspace clears the selection. Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y undo and redo everything, including structure changes.
- Drag the small fill handle (square at the selection corner) to copy values down / across — numeric sequences like 1, 2, 3 continue automatically.
- Ctrl+D fills down: with a range selected it copies the top row through the selection; on a single cell it copies the cell above. Ctrl+R does the same to the right.
- Row 1 is the header — it stays frozen at the top. Edit a header cell directly to rename a column.
Copy & paste
- Ctrl+C / Ctrl+X / Ctrl+V work on ranges and are fully compatible with Excel and Google Sheets — paste a copied block and it fills the right cells, growing the sheet if needed.
- Copying one cell and pasting into a bigger selection fills the whole selection.
Rows & columns
- Right-click anywhere — cells, row numbers, or column letters — for insert, delete, clear, sort and autofit options.
- Resize by dragging the edge of a column letter or row number. Double-click a column edge to autofit its width, or a row number's bottom edge to autofit its height. Autofit is also in the right-click menus.
- Cells with Alt+Enter line breaks show all their lines when the row is tall enough — use Autofit height on the row to expand it.
- Move a row or column: select it, then drag it by its header to a new spot.
- The toolbar has quick insert / delete buttons, and + 100 rows in the footer extends the sheet.
Filter & sort
- Filter rows (Ctrl+F) — type to hide rows that don't match; pick a specific column or all columns. Row numbers keep their original values so you can see what's hidden.
- Sort — select a cell in a column and use the A→Z / Z→A toolbar buttons or the right-click menu. Sorting rearranges the whole sheet (headers stay put) and is undoable.
Save & export
- Save (Ctrl+S) writes back to the file you opened (when the browser supports it), otherwise downloads a copy. Save As picks a new name / location.
- Use Delim and Enc in the header if the file uses a different delimiter or encoding.
- Safe export (footer) prefixes values starting with
=, +, -, or @ so spreadsheets don't treat them as formulas.
Status bar
Select a few numeric cells and the footer shows their Sum, Average and Count — just like Excel.
Suite workflow
Use Studio for quick manual edits, CSV Data Wrangler to record repeatable cleaning steps, and CSV Crosscheck to verify a cleaned export against the original.
Press Esc or click outside this panel to close. Switch apps anytime from the CSV Suite tabs in the header.
