Quick Guide
Welcome to the Quick Guide for Textplate Web App. Here's a breakdown of each key feature to help you navigate and use the app efficiently:
- Add New – Use this button in the left panel to create a new text template. Enter a title and content, then save. It will appear in your list.
- Search Bar – Quickly find saved templates in the left panel by typing keywords into the search bar.
- Export – Safeguard your templates (from the left panel) by exporting them to a JSON file on your computer.
- Import – Load previously saved templates from a JSON file back into the left panel list.
- Open Template – Click any template title in the left panel list to view or edit its details in the pop-up modal.
- Update Text (in Edit Modal) – After editing a template's title or content in the modal, click 'Save' to update it in your list.
- Delete Text (in Edit Modal) – Permanently removes the selected template from your list. This cannot be undone.
- Copy Text (in Edit Modal) – Copies the content of the template to your clipboard.
- Editor Area (Main Panel) – This is your main workspace for drafting and editing text. It features two modes:
- Rich Text Editor: Allows text formatting (bold, italics, lists, colors, etc.). Ideal for styled content.
- Plain Text Editor: For simple, unformatted text only.
- Editor Mode Switcher – Located above the editor area. Click either the 'Rich Text' or 'Plain Text' labels, or the toggle switch itself, to select your desired editing mode.
- Save As... – Saves the content currently in the active editor (Rich or Plain Text) to a file (.html or .txt) on your computer. This is different from 'Export', which saves your templates.
- Open File... – Loads content from a text file (.txt or .html) from your computer into the currently active editor, replacing its current content. This is different from 'Import', which loads templates.
- Local Storage Saving (Editors) – Content in both the Rich Text and Plain Text editors is automatically saved to your browser's local storage as you type. Important: Clearing your browser's cache or site data will erase this saved editor content, but will not affect your templates unless they haven't been exported.
Pro Tip:
While the app automatically saves your editor content to local storage and your templates when you add/edit/import, we strongly recommend manually Exporting your templates regularly as a backup JSON file to prevent accidental data loss.
